Colo-Colo

Colo-Colo is a Chilean club founded in 1925 in Macul, Santiago, Chile.

The club embarked on their way in Chilean amateur leagues. They got off to a flying start winning the Chilean championship in their debut season. In May 1933 they were one of the founding members of the professional Chilean Primera División along with Unión Española, Santiago Badminton, Audax Italiano, Magallanes and others. It’s a tidbit that the team have never been relegated from the top tier since the league inception. Colo-Colo have established themselves as the strongest and the most supported club in Chile as they are the most honored club in the country with 29 league titles and 10 cup honors.

Colo-Colo claimed their first Primera División title in 1937. As of 2012, the team hold a record of four consecutive titles since the 2006 Apertura to the 2007 Clausura. In 1958, the club met with their first cup success. The 1990s were a fruitful period regarding international performances as Colo-Colo recorded the Copa Libertadores and Copa Interamericana in 1992 and were crowned the Recopa Sudamericana champions in 1992.

The team play their home matches at Estadio Monumental David Arellano which can host up to 47,000 spectators. The stadium got its name to honor memory of Colo-Colo founder David Arellano who tragically died from peritonitis at the age of 24 after a clash with an opposing player during an exhibition match in Valladolid, Spain.
