Daejeon Citizen FC is a football side located in the city of Daejeon, South Korea.
Daejeon Citizen was founded in 1997. The team began its K-League adventure in unimpressive fashion. The first league game came against Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i. In total, Purple Crew secured only three wins in their maiden season. In 2001 Lee Tae-Ho took over at Daejeon Citizen and guided his side to the FA Cup triumph. In 2002 the club was outclassed in the Super Cup final.
Before the start of the 2003 campaign Choi Yun-Gyeom took up the reign at the club. He overhauled the Daejeon squad, recruiting several new players. Choi Yun-Gyeom’s team defied all expectations as Purple Crew secured a highest ever sixth-place finish in the K-League.
In 2012 the club did not make a good start to the new season. As a result, the team achieved only the 13th position at the end of the campaign. After the season 2013 Daejeon Citizen were relegated to K League Challenge.
Daejeon World Cup Stadium has been the home of Daejeon Citizen FC since 2002.
