Duisburg

German football club MSV Duisburg was founded in 1902. The team are often nicknamed the Zebras for their stripped jerseyes.

Since the early days of their existence, Duisburg was a hard nut to crack and regularly took the lead in the local championships. They claimed their first competitive silverware in 1929 as they became the first-tier Bezirksliga Niederrhein champions and repeated the feat in 1931 and 1932. However, their rise soon changed to a downturn as the club was close to disbanding. In the 1950s, the Zebras recuperated their lost positions as they won back their ticket to the top-flight Oberliga West in 1951.

In the 1960s, Duisburg was one of the founding members of the Bundesliga. The team got off to a flying start in the newly formed league as they finished runners-up in the debut 1963/64 season. They managed almost 20-season stay in the top flight before relegation to the 2. Bundesliga in 1982. Since that time, the club bounced up and down between the first and second tiers. However, the Zebras have made strong performances in the German Cup as they climbed up to the finals four times but lost all the four matches eventually finishing as runners-up. In 2008, the Zebras got a toehold in the 2.Bundesliga and struggle to retain a place there till today.

The team play their home matches at 31,500-seater Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in Duisburg.
