Eintracht Frankfurt is a German football club which represents the city of Frankfurt am Main in Bundesliga. The club’s badge is based on Frankfurt am Main coat of arms and depicts a one head eagle. Official colors are red, black and white. The club got ist modern name Eintracht Frankfurt in 1968.
In 1959 FC Eintracht defeated FC Kickers Offenbach in Berlin and became the champion of Germany.
In 1960 the club played in the European Champions Cup final in Glasgow but suffered a defeat from FC Real Madrid by 3-7. Erwin Stein scored twice for the German side.
In 1963 the team took part in the 1st German professional football clubs’ championship and finished third. The club also got through the final of the German Cup.
The 1960s and the 1970s were the most successful years for the club. At that time such prominent footballers as Jurgen Grabowski (World and European champion) and Friedel Lutz (1966 World Cup runner up) played for FRG national team. During that period FC Eintracht won the German Cup twice (1974, 1975).
In 1980 Friedel Rausch guided the team to the UEFA Cup final against Borussia Monchengladbach where it snatched the victory.
The club won 2 more FRG Cups in 1981 and 1988 defeating Bochum and Kaiserslautern respectively.
Since 1994 there’s been a descent in the results and 1995/1996 Eintracht was relegated to Bundesliga 2. Despite that the club’s main goalkeeper Andreas Kopke became a Euro 1996 winner. In 1966/1967 season the club won the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
In 1998 Eintracht came back to Bundesliga 1 to stay there for three years and fall back down in 2001. In 2003 the team fought its way back to Bundesliga 1 again for one season after having finished third in the second division.
Under the spell of Friedhelm Funkel that started in 2004 the club marked a return to Bundesliga 1 in 2005.
