Gandzasar FC is an Armenian football team from the city of Kapan founded in 1963.
From the Armenian language Gandz-a-sar is translated as ‘treasure mountain’. Though, in fact, there are not so many ‘treasures’ in club’s tally. The team claimed their first silverware in the shape of the SSR Armenia Cup in 1963. They also won two Armenia League titles in 1989 and 1991, but all these honors belong to the Soviet era. Gandzasar have never won a title after Armenia got independence from the USSR. The farthest Gandzasar have progressed to since the Armenia Premier League inception in 1992 was the third-place finish in 2008 and 2011. They’ve also made two appearances in the UEFA Europa League.
The team players wear red and white kits. They play their home matches at Gandzasar Stadium with the capacity of 3,500 seats.
