German football club SSV Jahn Regensburg was founded in 1907. It got its name after gymnastics educator Friedrich Ludwig Jahn who influenced German sport much in the 19th century.
The club can’t boast of any competitive honors throughout their history. They won several local championships at their early years but after the reformation of football system in Germany, the team never shone on the national or international scene. However, Jahn Regensburg met with success in cup competitions winning the Bavarian Cup six times. The 2000s saw the team mired in the third division. They managed to break into the second tier only twice in 13 years – in the 2003/04 season and most recently in the 2012/13 season. However, Jahn Regensburg finished bottom of the table that season.
Jahn Regensburg play their home matches at Jahnstadion which can hold 12,500 spectators.
