History and achievements
Massimo D’Azeglio lyceum pupils founded Sport Club Juventus in Turin in 1897. In two years it was renamed to become Juventus Football Club. In 1905 the club won its first national championship title.
In 1930s the club featured such stars as Orsi thanks to whom they won 5 championship titles in a row (1930/35). Late 1950s saw the club rise anew. At that time it featured a true star, Omar Sivori, who became the first player of the Italian league to be awarded the ‘Ballon d’Or’. Juventus won 3 championship titles namely with this player.
In 1980s the club’s success was connected with the coach Giovanni Trapattoni. Such famous players as Rossi, Boniek, Platini played under his charge and helped Juventus win four championship titles (1981, 1982, 1984, 1986). And in 1985 the club defeated Liverpool F.C. in the Champions Cup final.
Marcello Lippi led the club in the mid 1990s. He had many a great success with his new team. The team’s squad included following players: Roberto Baggio, Vialli and young Del Piero. In 1996 Juventus won the Champions League for the second time. And the summer of the same year such outstanding players as French playmaker Zidane, Dutch box-to-box midfielder Davids and Italian forward Inzaghi joined the club. After a short period spent with Internazionale Lippi returned to Turin (beginning of 2000s) and won championship titles in 2002 and 2003.
In 2006 a corruption scandal took place which resulted in Juventus relegation to Serie B in the season 2005/06. Next year the club from Turin returned to Serie A and finished third.
Summer 2009 featured the squad’s strengthening: Brazilians Diego and Felipe Melo were bought, Uruguayan defender Caceres was rented and Fabio Cannavaro was repatriated.
However, the season ended with a massive frustration and 7th place. Del Neri led the team in May 2010. On May 31, 2011 Antonio Conte was appointed Juve’s head coach with a two-year contract. The season 2011/2012 turned out to be a remarkable success with the club winning the Scudetto for the first time since 2006 and not a single game conceded throughout all the season.
Juventus history boasts 9 Italian Cups and 27 championship titles. Today the club plays its home matches at the Juventus stadium (capacity – 43, 500 seats). The club’s characteristic uniform is striped black-and-white shirts, white socks and shorts. It is noteworthy that traditionally Juventus is considered the base club of the Italy’s national team as participation of the Italy’s national team at the World Cups features a lot of players from this football club.
