Kashima Antlers is a football club in Japan, playing in the J. League Division 1. The club is based in Kashima, Ibaraki Prefecture. This is one of the best clubs in Japan as since the foundation of J. League in 1993, the team won seven league titles and never suffered relegation. Kashima Antlers became the winner of the J. League Cup five times and won four Emperor’s Cups.
It was founded in 1947 by Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. Initially the club was based in Osaka. In 1975 they moved to Kashima, Ibaraki Prefecture, and now they are no longer financed by Sumitomo, but sponsored by a glass window maker LIXIL.
At the foundation of the professional league in 1993 they were named Kashima Antlers and played in the top division because many teams decided not to play in the top flight as they lacked professionalism. Until today it has been one of the most powerful teams in Japan.
They play home matches in Kashima Soccer Stadium, its capacity is 40, 800 seats. The club has ties with Brazilian football community.
