Las Palmas is a football side based at the Canary Islands. The outfit appeared in 1949 as a result of a merger of all five Canarias clubs. The team started brilliantly in the third league, finishing runner-up in the inaugural season. The following campaign saw Las Palmas finish third in the second division, securing promotion to the top flight. Las Palmas became the first team that reached the top league with two consecutive promotions.
The most victorious period in La Liga was the 1968/196 campaign when the sideunder the tenure of Vicente Dauder finished second. The 1970s are remembered by the fans as the time when Las Palmas played in the European tournaments.
In 1978 the club climbed to the final of the domestic cup, yet lost to Barcelona 1-3.

The Estadio de Gran Canaria is the home ground with a capacity of 31,000. The Yellows is the most famous nickname of the side.
