Levante UD was created in 1909 in Valencia. Despite being the oldest club in the city they only spent 5 seasons in the highest division of Spain. They even won a trophy. It occurred when the peninsula was haunted by a revolution. The tournament was called ‘The Free Spain Cup’ (Copa de la España Libre) and Levante managed to overcome Valencia in the final. This win was equalled to the win in the Copa del Rey and this is the only title of the team in more than 100 years.
Currently the club plays in the Primera being a solid mid-table squad.
In the past the club was glorified by such notable players as Vicente, Vladimir Manchev, Quique Setién, Caco Morán, Jose Molina, Pablo Cavallero, Savio, Ian Harte, Shota Arveladze, Damiano Tommasi, Peter Rufai, Ngom Kone, Faas Wilkes, Johan Cruyff, Johan Mjällby, Fabio Celestini, Predrag Mijatovic.
The famous managers who worked with the team are Antonín Fivebr, Juande Ramos, Berndt Schuster, Abel Resino.
The team is often called Granotes (Frogs). Their home ground is called ‘Ciutat de Valencia’ and seats 20,000 spectators.
The team’s performance during the season of 2011/2012 stunned most of the specialists. They fell out of the Copa del Rey in the first rounds but they finished the La Liga championship on the 6th position.
