The birth date of LOSC Lille Métropole is 23 September 1944 when two football clubs Olympique Lillois and SC Fives merged to form a new team.
In the first season in Division 1 the club that was nicknamed by the press ‘war machine’ stunned many by claiming the title and winning the Coupe de France. The following season saw the team finishing 4th, yet in the Coupe de France final Lille beat Strasbourg and celebrated another Cup title. The club managed to win the Cup again one year later thus alongside Red Star FC setting the record of claiming the trophy in three consecutive seasons.
The glorious era finished in 1956 as Lille was classed down and during the 1960s and 1970s was floating between Division One and Division Two.
The comeback of the team did not happen until the year of 2000 as that year Lille was finally promoted to the First League and four years later finished 4th. It was the same year that a prominent movie producer Michel Seydoux became a major shareholder and as a result the president of the club. Under his helm Lille built a strong squad and surprisingly celebrated the victory in the League in the season 2010/2011 outperforming such clubs as Lyonnais, PSG and Bordeaux.
The home kit colors of the team are red and white, the away matches it plays in blue.
