Maccabi Tel Aviv is one of the oldest and most titled Israeli clubs. Throughout its long history the team set the record of claiming 6 doubles and also has never been relegated from the top flight.
Maccabi was organized in 1906 by a group of 16-year-old boys. In the early days the side played mainly in friendly matches and it was not until the 1920s that Maccabi started competing in the national tournaments. The team’s first major silverware was the 1929 National Cup.
In 1937 Maccabi tasted the honors of the league and four years later clinched its first double.In the 1960s and 1970s the side became the most successful Israeli teams, dominating in the national championship and winning the Asian Club Championship twice. That period was marked by three doubles.
The last two decades brought the team 4 titles of the national championship and 5 Israeli cups. In the season 2004/2005 the team qualified to the Champions League for the first time in its history.
The team hosts its home games at the Bloomfield stadium that can hold up to 14,960. The most famous nickname of the side is the Yellows.
