N.E.C.

N.E.C.(Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie) is a Dutch football club that represents the city of Nijmegen. The team was founded on 15 November 1900 by ordinary hard-working people that lived in the town. The team played at amateur level up to 1936 when they finally won in the play-off matches and received promotion to the First Class. In the late 1930s the team became one of the top ones in Netherlands.

After World War II the club saw dropping in a class and even struggled for its existence. It was not until 1960s that the team progressed from the lower divisions, returning to the top flight in 1964.

In the 1980s-1990s the team embarked on a downward spiral again and for two decades rotated between Division 1 and Division 2.

N.E.C. advanced to the finals of the KNVB Cup four times (1973, 1983, 1994, 2000), though did not manage to claim the title even once. The highest achievement of the team on the European arena is reaching the last 32 round of the UEFA Cup in 2008, where they were defeated by the German club Hamburger SV.

The team’s home arena is Stadion de Goffert that can hold up to 12,500 supporters.
