Oeste Futebol Clube is a Brazilian football club from Itápolis in São Paulo state. It was founded in 1921 by two brothers from Rio de Janeiro. It’s a tidbit that the brothers couldn’t agree how to name their new team: as one of them was the supporter of Flamengo and the other of Fluminense, each of them wanted to give the name of the preferred club. They decided to play a match against a certain amateur side and the result of the game was to determine the name of either Flamengo or Fluminense. However, paradoxically, despite their team won it got the name Oeste, though Flamengo’s red and black colors were chosen.
Oeste is a minnow in the Brazilian football system. The team lead largely unremarked existence rotating between the lower divisions. Their major achievement is the Campeonato Paulista do Interior victory in 2011. In the 2012 season, Oeste topped the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C which earned them promotion to the second tier for the 2013 campaign.
The team play their home games at Idenor Picardi Semeghini stadium which can host up to 16,100 spectators.
