History and achievements
Oldham Athletic is a professional football club that was created in 1895 under the title Pine Villa. The team received the current name in 1899 and fifteen years later Oldham became Football League runners-up losing the title by one point. During the same season the club climbed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup where they lost to Sheffield United 3-0.
Later the club’s fortunes changed and in 1923 the team was relegated to the Second Division.
Oldham Athletic reached the FA Cup semi-finals twice, both times losing to Manchester United after a replay.
The club climbed to the 1990 Football League Cup Final and clinched the Football League Second Division title in 1991, thus ending 68 years outside the top tier of English football.
The home ground of the team is the Boundary Park that can sit up to 10,638 fans.
