Pakhtakor Tashkent is a football club in Uzbekistan. It was founded in 1956 in Tashkent and was a strong football club in USSR. The team made their debut in the top division of the Soviet football league in 1959. Pakhtakor was the winner of the USSR Cup in 1967 and all in all during the Soviet period they played 22 seasons in the top division, in 1962 and 1982 the team finished sixth in the league table.
In August 1979 seventeen Pakhtakor’s players and staff died in the air crush, since then the year of 1982 was a prolific one but after their starring goal scorer Yakubik left for Moscow the team had six consecutive seasons in the Soviet First League.
After the dissolution of the USSR Pakhtakor compete in the Uzbek League and in two decades between 1992 and 2012 claimed 9 league titles and 11 Uzbekistani Cup wins.
In 2002/03 Pakhtakor was fourth in AFC Champions League and in 2004 they reached the semifinals. In 2007 the team won CIS Cup.
Their home venue is Pakhtakor Markaziy Stadium, which has a capacity of 35,000.
