P.A.O.K. is a Greek football side based in Thessaloniki. It was founded on 26 April 1926.The home ground of the club is Toumba Stadium that has a capacity of 28,703 seats. The arch rivals of the club are Olympiacos and Aris Thessaloniki.
From 1970 to 1985 the club enjoyed its golden era, finishing atop of the 1st division twice, in 1976 and 1985. The team also won the Greek Cup in 1972 and 1974. P.A.O.K. also reached the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals in the 1973/1974 season.
In the early 90s the football hooliganism of Greek fans, which took place during the UEFA Cup game between PAOK and Paris Saint-Germain, led to PAOK’s five-year expulsion from UEFA competitions.
In the summer of 2012 Ivan Savvidi, PAOK’s new major shareholder, set up a financial policy that could help the club to pay off debts, borrowed by the previous management. According to the new strategy, the side was going to sign footballers mostly from young academies rather than buy players of doubtful value from abroad. Giorgos Donis was appointed as the new head coach after the 2011/2012 season with László Bölöni.
