Ponferradina is a Spanish football team from the region of El Bierzo, founded on 7 June 1922.
The first club’s stadium was planned to be built in the castle, but king Alfonso XIII did not give his permission and consequently the Sant Marta ground was constructed. The first match of the team was held on September 8th 1923 against Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa.
Ponferradina spent most of its history in the fourth and third leagues. In 1967 the side celebrated one of the most memorable victories, outperforming Real Madrid 6-1.The first run of the team in the second division started in 2006. The side played for 3 seasons in the second tier, before that competing for 18 years in Segunda División (B) and 46 years in the third league.
The current stadium was opened in 2000 with the team playing a friendly against Celta de Vigo. The ground is called El Toralín and it can sit up to 8,200.
The most popular nicknames are La Ponfe and La Deportiva. The home kit colors are blue and white.
