Racing Club de Montevideo is a Uruguayan football club founded in 1919 in the city of Montevideo.
The team’s first run into the Primera División dates back to 1924. All in all, they spent 46 seasons in the top flight as of February 2013. Though playing in the top championship for a long time, Racing has never claimed the league title. The farthest they progressed to in the top league was the 6th place finish in the aggregate table in the 2008/09 season. However, this result earned them a ticket to the first stage of the 2010 Copa Libertadores.
Racing club is often nicknamed La Escuelita, meaning the Little School in English, as it established itself as a feeder club for numerous outstanding players. Such notable footballers like Roberto Saporiti, Jean Barrientos, Ernesto Goñi, Héctor Macchiavello, Julio Morales, Federico Bergara and legendary Atilio García had their spells at Racing.
The team play their home matches at Estadio Osvaldo Roberto with the capacity of 8,500 seats.
