FC Red Bull Salzburg is an Austrian football club from Salzburg which was founded on 13 September 1933.
On 6 April 2005 Red Bull company purchased SV Austria Salzburg claiming that it would create a totally new football club with its own colours and emblem which would correspond to the trade mark. Initially Red Bull claimed that the club was founded in 2005; however the Austrian Football Association ordered to remove this statement from the club website.
This situation divided the fans’ opinions. Those who intended to maintain the club’s traditions re-created SV Austria Salzburg with its traditional emblem and colours.
FC Red Bull Salzburg won seven Austrian Bundesliga titles, finished runner-up in this competition five times; celebrated the victory in the Austrian Cup, became a three-time winner of the Austrian Supercup, reached the UEFA Cup final in 1994. Besides, FC Red Bull Salzburg is the first team to win all the six group stage matches of the UEFA Europa League in the 2009/2010 season.
Roger Schmidt is the club’s manager.
