Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma is a South Korean football side that represents the city of Seongnam in the K-League.
The club came into being on March 18, 1989. In 1992 the team claimed its first professional title as Chunma lifted the K-League Cup. From 1992 to 1994 the side delivered three back-to-back league titles. However, the glory days came to an end. In 1998 and 1999 the club finished bottom. The team underwent several reforms. Young players were given chance to shine. As a result, from 2001 to 2003 the side again secured three consecutive K-League titles. On top of that, Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma won the K-League Cup and the Korean Super Cup.
In the year of 2004 the team reached the AFC Champions League final but was demolished by Al-Ittihad. The club was short of its brilliant best. However, in 2006 the side bounced back and clinched the K-League title, which became the seventh league title in Chunma’s trophy cabinet. On July 15, 2007 Suwon Bluewings ended Seongnam’s 22 match unbeaten run.
On November 13, 2010 the club defeated Zob Ahan FC in the final to secure AFC Champions League title for the second time in the team’s history. A year later Seongnam lifted the FA Cup. The 2012 campaign turned out to be an unsuccessful one as the team finished 12th in the K-League.
Home matches are played at Seongnam Tancheon Sports Complex which can hold up to 17,000 spectators.
