FC Seoul is a football club from Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The side currently plays in the K-League.
FC Seoul was originally formed on December 22, 1983. The club entered the 1984 K-League season as Lucky-Goldstar Football Club. The club’s first honours soon followed when Seoul won the league in 1985. In 1990 the title returned to the team after five titleless years. The year of 1998 saw Seoul lift the FA Cup. The club developed rapidly and its progress was reflected in the K-League triumph in 2000. In February 2004 the side switched to its modern name. In 2009 FC Seoul participated in the AFC Champions League and reached the quarter-finals but lost to Qatari side Umm-Salal.
The club continued to make its mark on the domestic game and in the 2010 campaign the team did the League and Cup double. The club recorded the highest ever attendance in the league when a crowd of 56,769 people turned out to watch the second leg of the K-League final.
In 2012 Choi Yong-Soo, the newly-appointed Seoul manager, led his team to the fifth league triumph.
The team plays in red and black. The home ground is called the Seoul World Cup Stadium, the second largest stadium in Asia. Its seating capacity is nearly 67,000 people.
