Servette is a Swiss football team from the city of Geneva. The club was created in 1890 and quickly became one of the most popular clubs in French-speaking region of Switzerland. The first title of the League Servette claimed in 1907. Later the team celebrated regular victories in the top flight, winning 11 titles and 2 cups in the first half of the century. Overall the history of Servette boasts 17 trophies of the top Swiss League, 7 Swiss Cups and 3 Swiss League Cups.
The most glorious period in the club’s history was the season 1978/1979 when Servette won all the domestic tournaments and progressed to the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup where they were by eliminated by Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Until its bankruptcy in 2005, Servette was the only Swiss club that played in the top league since its establishment in 1890. Servette remains the club that has never experienced relegation for sporting reasons.
The newly build stadium of the club is Stade de Genève that was opened on March 16, 2003 and can sit up to 30,084.
The owner of the club is Hugh Quennec. The nickname of Servette is Les Grenats (The Garnets).
