NK Slaven Belupo is a Croatian football side from Koprivnica that currently competes in the Prva HNL. The club is also known as Farmaceuti after the pharmaceutical company Belupo.
NK Slaven Belupo was born on June 20, 1907 when a group of students created a sports team. In 1920 the club secured its first silverware after winning the Croatian regional championship. It took a lot of time for Slaven to earn promotion to the top tier. In 1997 the team finally mounted a promotion push. Since that time the side has been a consistent performer in the Prva HNL. In the year of 2000 the Pharmacists finished a respectable fifth. It was an impressive campaign that became even more memorable when Slaven was offered a chance to participate the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
In 2007 NK Slaven Belupo progressed to the Croatian Cup final. It was an unprecedented success, though the club lost to Dinamo Zagreb. On August 28, 2008 the team pulled off a surprise win against Greek club Aris in the UEFA Cup and qualified for the group stages for the first time in its history.
The team’s official colours are blue and white. Stanislav Biondić is currently at the helm of NK Slaven Belupo. Ivica Križanac, the former Zenit centre-back, defended the colours of Slaven from 1998 to 2000.
