History and achievements
St. Gallen is a football club from Switzerland. The team was founded in April 1879 and it is the oldest Swiss football team. In the early days St. Gallen celebrated a victory in the Swiss championship just once - in the season 1903/1904, yet the second title of the league was claimed only a century later in the season 1999/2000. Apart from these honors and the Swiss Cup that was grabbed in 1969, the club’s history does not boast titles and high achievements.
The team progressed to the final of the Swiss Cup three more times (in 1945, 1977 and 1998), but the attempts were not successful. Most of its life the team spent rotating between Swiss Super League and Swiss Challenge League, though during last two decades in the top flight St. Gallen transformed into a strong mid-position side.
The home stadium of the club is AFG Arena that has a capacity of 19,694. The chairman of the club is Michael Hüppi.
