Taraz

History and achievements

Taraz is a football club from Kazakhstant that was created in 1960 under the name Metallist, yet six years later the team was renamed Voskhod. Throughout their four decade history the team had a number of names, including Energetik, Alatau, Khimik, Fosfor, but in 1994 they received the current title.

In the mid-1990s the side was one of the most successful in the country, clinching the title of the League in 1996 and finishing runner-ups in 1995 and 1997. The beginning of the 2000s saw the club’s fortunes change as Taraz was relegated to the First Division in 2001 where they played for a season. The last major achievement of the club is the 2004 Kazakhstan Cup.

The only run of the team in Asian Club Championship dates back to 1998 when Taraz achieved the second round.

The home ground is Central Stadium with the capacity of 12,525.
