History and achievements
FC Terek was founded in 1946. Before it got its modern name, the team used to be called Dinamo (till 1948) and Neftyanik (till 1958). In the Soviet times the team had no remarkable results, the only victories being achieved in local tournaments. The team played the total of 1264 matches in various USSR championships with 574 victories, 395 losses and 295 draws. In 1974 Terek became RSFSR champions and won the RSFSR Cup.
As for modern era, the team won the Russian first division championship in 2004. The same year Terek won the national cup. The team’s best scorer is Andrei Fedkov with 38 goals scored in 2004.
Many experienced football amateurs remember such Terek players as: Sultan Tazabayev, Adam Ismailov, Ruslan Idigov, Alexander Bondar, Deni Gaisumov, Ramzan Tsutsulaev, Dmitri Kudinov, Isa Baitiev, Rizvan Sadaev, Ashab Alsultanov and Timur Dzhabrailov – all these players are alumni of the club who eventually joined other stronger teams.
The team roster also featured Alvi Deniev, Dik Dudaev, Viktor Koliadko, Anatoli Mikheev, Yuri Pogalnikov, Boris and Viktor Kayushnikov, Alexander Balakhnin and Oleg Khokhlenko.
In the early 90s Terek was dismissed due to Chechen war. Footballers joined different clubs from all over Russia. Seven years later when military operations were completed the team was restored. In 2001 they managed to finish fifth in the second league South division. A year later the team won the above-mentioned tournament and got promoted to the first division. At that time the team played its home matches in Kislovodsk which is 50 km away from Grozny.
In 2003 the team made its debut in the first division and almost got the right to play in the Premier League after the first attempt having finished fourth. However, next year Terek managed the task already seven matches before the end of the championship.
Currently, the Chechen club plays in the Premier League. It is noteworthy Terek played in the UEFA Cup in 2004 but failed to advance far along the tournament.
