Tianjin Teda FC is a football team located in Tianjin, China. The club is owned by the TEDA Group. It currently performs in the Chinese top tier. The club’s home matches are staged at the 37,450 seater TEDA Football Stadium.
The club’s predecessor, Tianjin Football Club, was created in 1957 and it played predominantly in the elite division. The team managed to secure several league and cup titles. In the year of 1993 Tianjin turned professional. The side’s poor display in the 1997 season led to its relegation to the second division. On February 16, 1998 Tianjin was purchased by the TEDA Group and resurgence began immediately. That year saw Tianjin Teda crowned second division champions.
In 2007 the team played against Melbourne Victory in the Lord Mayor’s Cup. In 2008 Tianjin Teda brought in Lin Xinjiang as a new manager of the club. Under his successful reign the team qualified for the AFC Champions League. In 2011 Tianjin Tigers delivered their first professional silverware when the club lifted the Chinese FA Cup.
Such famous footballers as Damiano Tommasi and Aliaksandr Khatskevich defended the colours of the club. Alexandre Guimarães currently trains the squad.
