Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León is football team in Mexico, it is known as Tigres UANL or Tigres. The team is located in San Nicolás de los Garza, the Monterrey Metropolitan Area. Tigres UANL was founded in 1960. In 1974 the team promoted to the top flight having won the Second Division and in 1977/78 they were the League Champions. In 1980 they finished runners-up and in 1982 won the First Division title for the second time.
Tigres UANL faced relegation to Primera Division A in 1996 but won Invierno 1996 and Verano 1997 thus getting promotion to the first division. Among the team’s achievements is the InterLiga, which they won in 2005 and 2006, thus qualified for Copa Libertadores de América tournaments.
When the controlling company Cemex celebrated their 100-year anniversary, in August 2006 Tigres faced FC Barcelona in Monterrey, the match ended 3-0. In July 2008 the team faced Atletico de Madrid in the match that came in a 2-2 draw.
The team’s latest achievements are the North American SuperLiga title which they won in 2009 and the Apertura tournament, which they won in 2011.
