UCD is the football club of the University College Dublin. The club was established in 1895. The UCD Bowl is the home stadium, which has a capacity of 3,000 people, including 1,500 seats. The traditional colors of the club are sky blue and navy.
The club was invited to join the League of Ireland in 1922, but had to turn down the offer because of the inconvenient match schedule. The academic year started in October and the League of Ireland Shield commenced in September.
In 1979 UCD joined the League of Ireland, when Cork Celtic left the competition because of financial difficulties. In the 1994/1995 season UCD won the First Division for the first time in the history of the club. The team repeated their success only in 2009, when UCD entitled the league and gained promotion to the Premier Division. Apart from 2 First Division titles, the Students claimed the 1984 FAI Cup, the 2000 FAI Super Cup, 2 League of Ireland First Division Shields, 3 Leinster Senior Cups and other trophies.
The club’s notable former players include Kevin Moran, Brian Lenihan and Willie Browne.
