Udinese is a football club from Udine that appeared in 1896 as Udinese Society of Gymnastics and Fencing. In 1911 society also included football and a year later the team took part in its first championship. From 1920 to 1950 Udinese was floating between division 2 and division 3 even finishing as a runner-up behind Milan in Serie B in the season 1954/1955.
Throughout the 1960s and the 1970s Udinese was in decline and did not climb high on the football pyramid. The rise of the team started in the 1980s as the Little Zebras finished 6th in 1983. Yet the betting scandal in 1986 changed the fortune of the club as it was penalized by the federation and afterwards failed to secure a place in the top division.
In 1996 the team finally established itself in Serie A and after Luciano Spalletti was appointed the manager of the club Udinese finished 4th and played in the UEFA Champions League. The recent seasons saw the team receiving qualification for European Cups and finishing in top 6 of Serie A.
The most prominent football players are Oliver Bierhoff, Carsten Jancker, Zico, Alexis Sánchez and Dino Zoff. Antonio Di Natale is a top scorer of the team with 29 goals in the season 2011/2012.
Recently the club launched the free Web TV channel, dedicated to the team and broadcasting worldwide.
