Utrecht is a professional football club from the city of Utrecht, Netherlands. The team was created in 1970 when three clubs DOS, Elinkwijk and Velox merged to form a new one.
The highest achievement of the team is the first place in 1958 national championship. The team clinched the KNVB Cup three times (1985, 2003 and 2004). Apart from that in 2004 the team claimed the Johan Cruijff Shield and became the only Dutch club except Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV to taste the honors of this trophy. The team has never been relegated from the top tier of Dutch football.
The home arena of the Utrecht is Stadion Galgenwaard that has a capacity of 24,400. The average attendance of the home games is around 20,000.
In 2008 the club’s major block of shares was purchased by the businessman Van Seumeren. The management of the team announced the plans to contend the title of the league by 2013.
