History and achievements
FC Viktoria Plzeň is a football club in the Czech Republic, located in Plzeň. It was founded in 1911 under the influence of the official of state railways Jaroslav Ausobsky. The team’s debut match was a 3-7 loss at Olympia Plzeň.
The professional era for the team began in 1929. The team finished seventh their first season in Division One, the following season they were runners-up and promoted to the top flight.
Viktoria went down in 1938 but in a year managed to promote. In 1942 the team faced relegation nevertheless they returned to the top flight the following season and remained in the elite division till 1952. In that year the club was given a new name of Sokol ZVIL Plzeň. The following nine years the team competed in lower divisions and in 1961 Spartak Plzeň, as the team had already been named by that time, joined the top division, but then had periods of ups and downs. In 1971, the team won the Czech Cup and became the runner-up of the Czechoslovak Cup. In 1972 the team, at that time named Škoda Plzeň, promoted to the top division and competed there for eight years. The 1980s were the period of ups and downs before they advanced to the first league and stayed there till their relegation in 1999.
Since 2005 Viktoria Plzeň has been competing in the first division and on 11 June 2011 the team celebrated its hundred-year anniversary. The 2010/11 season was a success for them because they were Gambrinus liga winners; in 2009/10 they won Czech Republic Football Cup. In 2011 they were crowned with Czech Republic Football Supercup.
The team’s home stadium is Štruncovy Sady, which has a capacity of 11,700.
