
History and achievements
Villarreal CF is a Spanish football club that appeared in 1923. During their first games the male supporters paid half a peseta for one ticket, a child ticket cost a quarter of a peseta and women were allowed to watch the matches for free.
All yellow kit was introduced in 1947, while the current badge of the team was developed in 1966. In the second part of the 20th century the team was playing in minor leagues, yet in 1998 they finally earned promotion to the top flight.
The team stunned many in the 2000s. In 2004 the team debuted in the UEFA Cup, later finished second in the season 2007/2008 La Liga, before that reaching the semifinal of the Champions League in the season 2005/2006. For most of the century the team was playing in either regional or minor leagues.
The home ground of the club is El Madrigal that holds 24,890. The most famous nickname is the Yellow submarine. The club’s chairman is Fernando Roig Alfonso.
