AFC Wimbledon is a football club from London, based in 2002, when the FA decided upon the transfer of Wimbledon FC from London to Milton Keynes due to financial problems. Most supporters decided against going for the new club some 56 miles away from home and created a new club, AFC Wimbledon. It inherited symbolics and colours of the previous club, while the old club moved away and is known today as Milton Keynes Dons, having nothing in common with the ancestor club.
2007 was a marquee year for the club as Milton Keynes Dons president returned Wimbledon FC trophies to the county were the original club had been established. Among them was the FA Cup 1988.
The new-born AFC Wimbledon started from the very bottom of English football and managed to reach Football League in 2011. Since that date the Dons have competed in Football League Two.
The club plays home matches at Kingsmeadow ground in South London.
