FC Zbrojovka Brno is a football club from the Czech Republic, founded in 1913 and named SK Židenice. In the period from 1933 till 1947 the team competed in the top division but then they faced relegation. Until 1970 they had ups and downs, and in 1970s they proved themselves a strong team, in 1978 Zbrojovka Brno, as it was named by then, won the Czechoslovak First League. From 1983 till 1989 the team played in the second division, Czech National League, then had two seasons in the top flight and after that they faced relegation again.
In 1992 Brno earned promotion to the First League and competed in the top division till 2011. In the 2011/12 season they were forth in the Czech 2. Liga, thus missed promotion. But they were lucky to advance to the top flight because the two teams staying above weren’t eligible to promote.
In European tournaments the team appeared for the first time in 1978/79 season, reaching the second round of European Cup. They competed in the 1993/94 European Cup Winners’ Cup but were knocked out after the first round. In 1979/80 they advanced to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup and then competed in two editions of the UEFA Cup, in 1980/81 and 1997/98.
