Alberto Malesani is a professional Italian football coach. He was born on 5 June 1954 in Verona, Italy.
As player, Alberto featured for his hometown amateur side Audace S. Michele. However, he gave up playing at the age of 24 as it was coaching that attracted him more. He moved to Amsterdam and devoted himself to studying Ajax training methods. It’s a tidbit that Malesani decided to spend his honeymoon in Barcelona in order to be able to watch Johan Cruijff’s coaching sessions at Barcelona FC.
Malesani started out his coaching career with then-unremarkable side Chievo. He got off to a flying start leading the team to promotion to Serie B. He went on to impress with Parma, leading the club to the Italian Cup victory in the 1998/99 season. In the same campaign Parma claimed the Italian Super Cup beating champions Milan in the final.
In the 2000s Malesani’s fortunes changed. He didn’t meet with much success since his tenure at Parma. During that period he changed a number of clubs such as Verona, Modena, Panathinaikos, Udinese, Empoli, Siena, Bologna and Genoa. At the beginning of 2013, Alberto Malesani took over the coaching reins at Palermo. However, after only three games at the helm of the club Alberto was released.
In January 2014 Malesani was appointed Sassuolo crisis manager, but lost five games and was released later on in March.
