A former German footballer and an actual coach, Christian Streich was born in Weil am Rhein, Germany on June 11, 1965.
Christian began his professional playing career in 1983 in Freiburger FC which then played in Oberliga. Freiburger FC won the 1983/1984 championship but did not make it to 2. Bundesliga due to losses in play-off matches. In 1985, Christian joined Stuttgarter Kickers and two years later he got a bye to Bundesliga after penning a contract with SC Freiburg. A season later he joined FC 08 Homburg, and thus kept playing in Bundesliga. In 1991, Streich returned to Freiburger FC to play last four seasons of his career as a footballer.
After finishing his playing career, Christian began to study history of German and world sports as well as other disciplines to become a coach. In 1995, Streich was in charge of the SC Freiburg youth squad, two years later he became assistant head coach for the main squad and in 2011 the name of his position lost the word ‘assistant’.
