Ciro Ferrara is a retired football player and a manager. Ciro Ferrara was born in Naples and started playing football in the youth team of Napoli in 1980. After graduating from primavera, defender made a debut in the senior squad and subsequently earned a place in starting 11.
In 1994 Ferrara moved to Juventus, where he became one of the key figures in the defensive line for 10 seasons. Ferrara captained the side from 1995 to 1996 and with the team claimed six Serie A championships, one Coppa Italia, two Supercoppa Italia, Champions League, UEFA Cup, and European Super Cup.
Ferrara entered coaching career in 2006, working in the technical staff of Italy at the World Cup 2006. After the tournament he headed Juventus youth academy. In 2008 he received license for coaching and moved to the post of head coach, staying there till 2010.
Ferrara headed Italy U-21 for three years; during his rule the team remained unbeaten in the 2013 UEFA European U-21 Championship qualification.
On 2 July 2012 Sampdoria announced his appointment as a manager. However, he was sacked 6 months later.
