Craig William Levein is a Scottish retired football player. He was born in 1964 in Dunfermline, Scotland. Levein started to play for youth club Lochore Welfare and went on professional playing in Cowdenbeath since 1981.
In 1983 he joined Heart of Midlothian. Heart won the Scottish Cup title in 1985/86 and Craig Levein was named Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year in 1985 and 1986. He made 326 official appearances for the Heart and finished his playing career in 1997 because of the knee injury.
He played for the Scotland national team from 1990 to 1994.
In 1997 he headed Cowdenbeath, the first team in his managerial career. Since the year of 2000 he guided Heart of Midlothian, Leicester City, Raith Rovers and Dundee United. Levein led Dundee United to the second place in the 2007/08 Scottish League Cup. While guiding them Levein was named SPL Manager of the Month for four times.
He left Dundee United in 2009 to head the Scotland national team. In 2013 he was replaced by Gordon Strachan.
