Dean Smith is a former football player who was born on 19 March 1971. He started his career in Walsal in 1989 and spent in the club five years, featuring in 166 matches and scoring twice. In 1994 he joined Hereford United where his record counts 146 outings and 19 goals.
Leyton Orient was the next club of the player where he moved in 1997 and played for six years. He became one of the key players in the side and netted 32 goals
In 2003 Smith moved to First Division side Sheffield Wednesday in where he appeared in 55 games and scored one goal.
In July 2004, he was signed by Martin Foyle’s Port Vale and a year later ended his playing days switching to coaching. He worked as a youth coach and assistant manager at Leyton Orient.
Smith was appointed caretaker manager of Walsall on 4 January 2011, following the dismissal of Chris Hutchings.
