Delio Rossi is a former professional footballer and a coach. Delio was born on 26 November 1960 in Rimini, Italy.
Rossi’s playing career lasted from 1978 to 1989. He used to represent such clubs as Forlimpopoli, Cattolica, Foggia, Vis Pesaro and Fidelis Andria. In total, he amassed eight goals in 247 appearances.
Delio’s coaching career began in 1990. He started with managing Torremaggiore and in 1991 was hired by Foggia to coach the club’s youth team. In 1993, Rossi joined Salernitana from the Serie C1. The club under Delio won the promotion to Serie B. In 1995, the coach returned to Foggia, but the season turned to be not very successful. In 1996, he helped Pescara to win the sixth place and in 1997 he coached the former side Salernitana. Rossi helped the squad to get the place in the Serie A. Nevertheless, the manager didn’t manage to lead the club out of the relegation and was fired in 1999.
From 1999 to 2009, Rossi coached the teams of Genoa, Pescara, Lecce, Atlanta and Lazio. In 2009, he was appointed as the manager of Palermo, replacing the former coach Walter Zenga. In the 2011/2012 season, he coached Fiorentina. In 2012, a contract was agreed with Sampdoria. Due to poor start of 2013/2014 campaign, Delio Rossi was released in November 2013.
