Francesco Guidolin was born on 3 October 1955 in Castelfranco Veneto. Guidolin spent most of his playing career in Serie A club Verona, where he made his debut in 1975. The teams he played for also include Sambenedettese, Pistoiese, Bologna and Venezia.
Guidolin entered coaching in 1988 and started with Serie C2 team Giorgione. After heading such clubs as Treviso (Serie C2), Fano, Empoli he moved to Ravenna that during his tenure was promoted from Serie C1 to Serie B. Later the manager was appointed as Serie A Atalanta side in 1993, yet was sacked after 10 matches.
It was his time in Vicenza that brought him fame and recognition as Serie B team clinched Coppa Italia in 1997 and reached the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final. Vicenza also tasted the honors of Serie B championship and received promotion to the top flight.
In the 1998/1999 season Guidolin headed Udinese and the squad under his helm secured a place in the mid-table position. His next achievement was with Palermo in 2004 when he created the side that managed to earn promotion to Serie A after 35 years the team spent in lower leagues.
After short spells in Genoa, Monaco, Palermo and Parma, Guidolin was appointed as a head coach of Udinese that he brought to the 4th and 3rd places in two consecutive campaigns.
In 2014 Guidolin announced his retirement from management.
