Gerardo Daniel Martino is a football manager, born in 1962 in Rosario, Argentina. He graduated from the academy of Newell’s Old Boys, where he went on his further career since 1980.
He spent almost career with the club though had short spells at Tenerife and Lanús and finally left the club in 1995. In 1996 he had a short stint in Ecuador with Barcelona Sporting Club and shortly after that he retired.
Since 1998 Martino took over managerial career and guided such clubs as Brown de Arrecifes, Platense, Instituto, Libertad, Cerro Porteño and Colón. He brought Libertad to the Paraguayan league titles three times and Cerro Porteño won it once. In 2006, he took charge of the Paraguay national team and worked with the team until 2011. From 2012, Gerardo Martino was at the helm of Newell’s Old Boys and guided the team to the 2013 Clausura title.
In July 2013 Gerardo Martino was unexpectedly offered to take over FC Barcelona after Tito Vilanova had resigned due to health issues. Having failed to win a trophy in 2013/2014 season, Martino resigned after one year in charge.
