Gertjan Verbeek is former football player, who was born on 1 August 1962 in Deventer, Netherlands. Verbeek spent most of his career in SC Herenveen, where he played from 1984 to 1994, leaving on loan only during the season 1986/1987. Overall he appeared in 285 matches in the Dutch league and scored 47 goals.
After finishing his playing career Verbeek entered into coaching. He started as an assistant-coach in SC Heerenveen. After a successful spell in Heracles Almelo in 2001, Verbeek was appointed as the manager of SC Heerenveen, where he spent 4 seasons.
In 2008 Verbeek took the position on the head coach in Feyenoord, although a year later he was sacked after a disagreement with the players.
In 2010 Gertjan Verbeek was appointed AZ head coach. In 2013 the coach switched for a German side Nurnberg, but only stayed there for half a year.
