Giuseppe Sannino was born on 30 April 1957 in Ottaviano, Campania. He played as an attacking midfielder in a number of small clubs including Vogherese, Fanfulla, Spezia and Vigevano.
Sannino started his managerial career in 1990 in the youth team of Vogherese, later coaching Pavia, Meda, Sangiovannese, Varese and Cosenza. The coach received promotion for Varese from Serie C2 to Serie B.
Under his helm Siena escaped relegation from the top flight and reached the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia losing there to Napoli.
In 2013 Giuseppe guided Palermo in an attempt to save the club from being relegated to Serie B. Failing to do so he was released at the end of the season. From the July o November 2013 Sannino guided Chievo Verona. In the month of December Sannino replaced Gianfranco Zola at the helm of Watford.
