Graham Turner is a former English football player and a manager. Turner was born in 5 October 1947 in Ellesmere Port. His first club was Wrexham where he played for four years making 77 appearances. In January 1968 Turner sighed a deal with Chester City. He played for the club from 1968 to 1973 featuring in 218 matches and scoring five goals. After a five-year spell at the club the player joined Shrewsbury Town for £30,000 where he switched his position from midfielder to centre back. He spent ten years at the club overall featuring in 355 appearances and netting 22 goals.
During the season 1978/1979 he was appointed player-manager for the Shrews. Turner led the team to the Third Division championship title and to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
In the summer of 1984 he was introduced as Aston Villa manager, yet his spell at the side was not successful and in September 1986 he was sacked from the club as Villa was close to relegation from the top flight.
In 1986 Turner went to Wolverhampton Wanderers, a side that competed in the Fourth Division and endured serious financial troubles. Turner helped the team receive promotion to the Second Division and cement a mid-table position there. During his tenure the club claimed Football League Trophy in the season 1987/1988.
At the start of the season 1995/1996 he was named the manager of the Division Three side Hereford United. As the club was close to extinction in the season 1996/1997 he acquired the majority shareholding in the club in partnership with Joan Fennessy. During his time in the side Hereford finished second in the Conference in the season 2003/2004, but lost in the play-of semi-final against Aldershot Town. It was only two years later the team earned promotion to the Football League beating Halifax Town in the 2006 Conference Playoff Final.
In 2009 he stepped down from his managerial post, remaining a chairman of the side. In April 2010 Turner sold his shares in the team and several months later took charge of Shrewsbury Town. He led to the side to the promotion to League One. In 2014 Turner resigned from the club.
