Henry James Redknapp is a football manager, retired player. Currently he is responsible for Queens Park Rangers. Having played for the youth ranks of West Ham United, he joined the senior team in 1965 where he played until 1972. All in all he made 175 appearances and scored 8 goals. After that he switched to the third-division side Bournemouth and played for the team till 1976, when he moved to the US, joining Seattle Sounders as a player coach. In 1979, he left the team.
In 1964 he was a part of the England U-19 national team winning UEFA Youth Tournament.
Playing in North American Soccer League side, Seattle Sounders, Redknapp began his managerial career, being a playing coach. After that he worked as an assistant coach at Oxford City F.C. and in 1982 became the assistant coach at Bournemouth and later he became the manager. He worked there until 1992. During this long period he helped the team to advance in the table and led the team to the 1986/87 Third Division title. In 1994, Redknapp took charge of West Ham United, where he used to play earlier. Before that he had been an assistant coach there and stayed with the club until 2001. Then he headed Portsmouth from 2002 to 2004 and after that switched to Southampton for a year. In December 2005, he returned to Portsmouth and helped the side to avoid relegation. In 2007/08 they won the FA Cup.
In 2008, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur and during the winter transfer window made several important signings. The team finished the 2008/09 season eighth. The 2009/10 season was a successful one because Redknapp led the Spurs to the fourth position thus gaining qualification to the Champions League. In 2010/11, Tottenham reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League and in finished the league fifth, qualifying for the Europa League, but the following season they couldn’t qualify for the Champions League, finished fourth and Redknapp was sacked.
In September, 2012 he took charge of Bournemouth but worked there until 24 November 2012, when he switched to QPR.
