Leslie Mark Hughes, an outstanding Welsh manager and former footballer, was born on 1 November 1963 in Wrexham. Hughes was included into the English Football Hall of Fame for his merits.
Hughes played exceptionally for the most titled teams. He dedicated 13 years of his career to Manchester United (1980-1986, 1988-1995) and filled a gap from 1986 till 1988 playing for Barcelona and Bayern. After that, he joined Chelsea, then transferred to Southampton, Everton and, eventually, to Blackburn Rovers. Being a regular of those teams, Hughes lifted all possible trophies: the FA Cup, the Football League Cup, the FA Charity Shield, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
He represented the Wales national football team for 15 years, made 72 appearances and netted 16 goals. It was his national team that helped Hughes to start the coaching career in 1999. He was at the helm of Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Fulham. In 2012, Hughes was appointed the head coach of Queens Park Rangers. After 11 months in charge of QPR he was sacked and remained unemployed till the end of 2012/2013 when Stoke City offered him to replace Tony Pulis.
