Massimo Ficcadenti started his playing career in a small team Sambenedettese, spending four seasons in the club. He joined Messina in 1989 and three years later went to Verona, playing with the team in Serie A. After five seasons at the Gialloblu, Ficcadenti was sold to Torino, where he spent three seasons. In 2001 the Italian decided to retire from playing and started coaching.
Despite only 10-year experience in the craft, Ficcadenti worked with such teams as Fiorenzuola, Avellino, Pistoiese, Verona, Reggina, Piacenza and Cesena. His debut as a Seria A manager happened on 16 August 2011 when he was appointed a new boss of Cagliari, replacing Roberto Donadoni at the post.
In 2012 he was released from the club.
